Pediatric First Aid Training

As a parent we should have basic on how to perform First Aid for children and babies.we are always worried about our children safety. We want our children to be safe all the time. Children are prone to many accidents that can be fatal, for example, children are more prone to choking than adults, and they are prone to injuries such as bleedings while in the playground, chocking and nose bleeding.

Due to this fact, parents and caregivers should have basic knowledge of how to perform first aid to children for various emergencies.

Here is a small guideline on how to perform first aid on children.

First Aid for Nose Bleeding

  • Pinch the soft part of the nose and ask the child to lean forward. While doing this, ask the child to breathe through the mouth and spit any blood in the mouth.
  • Pinch the nose continuously for 10 minutes and release. If one is still nose bleeding repeat the procedure.
  • If bleeding continues for more than 30 minutes, seek medical attention.

It is advisable to seek further medical attention in the following situations.

  • If the bleeding continues for more than 30 minutes
  • When the child is taking blood-thinning medications or has a clotting disorder
  • If you regularly experience nose bleeding.

First aid for Bleeding

Wounds and bleeding are common with children because they are exposed to may sharp objects without their guardian’s knowledge. These injuries can vary from small cuts to wounds that damage tendons and ligaments. This calls for a need to own a home first aid kit because all the items needed to deal with bleeding can be found in a first aid kit.

What to do in case of bleeding

  • Apply direct pressure on the injured part
  • Raise and support the injured part higher than the heart muscle.
  • Cover the bleeding part with a sterile dressing.
  • Seek further medical attention if need be
